The Penguins still made fans sweat it out last night but they take game 2 by a score of 3-1. They took advantage of a Canadiens’ team that looked flat on the offensive end all night. Sidney Crosby and Jason Zucker scored goals shown above and Jake Guentzel added an empty net goal.
Crosby’s goal scored just over 4 minutes in seemed like it was going to be the only goal until the Canadiens started to pinch their defenders and the combo of Sheary/Zucker were able to get out on an odd man rush. Montreal’s Jesperi Kotkaniemi punched in a rebound shortly after that but that was all the Canadiens could put together in the final few minutes.
Matt Murray looked good after rumors swirled in the media that Tristan Jarry should get the start. I thought it looked like Murray was the best player on the ice, making key saves at times throughout the middle of the game.
One area that still needs to improve before game three Wednesday night is the power play. The Pens were 0-5 last night, leaving them 1-12 in the series. They’ve had chances but a big issue is just hitting the net. There were too many one timer attempts in both games that didn’t even come close to the 4′ by 6′. Get pucks on net and let everything else fall into place.
