The G-Force Grand National Series powered by The JuiceBox Podcast travels to Richmond Raceway for Round 3 tonight. 125 laps under the lights will provide speed, sparks, and some very irritated drivers. The cars are a handful for the first 5 laps. Look for some contact and passing opportunities early in runs.
Rewinding back to Week 1, Blaine Akin dominated at Nashville. Akin has a reputation for being quick on short tracks and showed this with 3 wins in the Vintage Cup Series on short tracks. Week 2 had championship favorite Gerald Campbell taking the trophy at the 1.5 mile Charlotte Motor Speedway. Campbell also led laps at Nashville and always has speed. Both drivers enter Richmond in the top 10 in points, with Campbell just one point out of first place. Other drivers to keep an eye on are points leader Jake Hounshell and Dallas Myhand, who average a 2nd and 5th place finish respectively.
Nashville, the last short track this series visited, welcomed us with 18 cautions. The chaos was cleaned up a bit at Charlotte with only 3 yellow flags. Short tracks tend to give us close quarter racing that inevitably leads to more yellow flags. Tonight, expect there to be some early cautions until nerves settle down 20-30 laps into the race.
In this week’s preview, we’re going to add a little wrinkle and put odds on five drivers to win. Let us know in the comments and replies who you like.
Blaine Akin 2/1
