Last night the Speed51 Elite Old Testament Firearms Truck Series finished their regular season at Gateway. Country Roads Motorsports entered the night 6 points behind the points leader for the regular season title. Nabbing the regular season title would give us 15 needed bonus points for the playoffs, making up for missed stage points.
The first stage went about as well as it could have. Starting 2nd in our first trip to Gateway, we held strong in the top 5 all stage and ended up 4th. The points leader finished the stage 6, making up 2 points and shrinking the gap. Momentum rolled into the second stage as we held strong once again most of the run. The points leader had issues in the stage that eventually ended his night early, leaving us with the pseudo points lead. However, Lap 41 saw it all come apart.
A bit of a racing deal, had the Voice of Motown Silverado make contact with the truck inside coming off of turn 2, squeezing our truck in the wall in the process. The contact left us with a minute of repairs and enough bent sheet metal to make a speed difference on the long straightaways. After fixing all the damage possible and putting the last set of fresh tires on, Steinmiller was poised to make one final run toward the front to salvage at least a 2nd place finish in regular season points. Contact on a 4-wide situation ended this hope and our night. Hard contact to the outside wall sent the truck up in the air and blowing the motor. The first DNF for CRM in the Truck Series this season.
When the dust settled, Country Roads Motorsports showed a 3rd place regular season points finish, good for 8 playoff bonus points. In the 8 week regular season, we were able to put together 1 top 5, 5 top 10’s, a stage victory, leading 22 laps, and completing a series high 812 laps. Good enough to seed us 5th in the playoffs, 1 point behind the 4th place cutoff line.
The first week of the playoffs take us to Chicagoland Speedway on December 6th. Tune in to speed51dotcom on Twitch at 9:30 pm for all the action.
