A week ago Bristol gave us everything we asked for and more. Aside from winner Jeff Green, every driver was involved in an incident of some sort. The war of attrition saw some championship contenders with tough days, leaving the points tight heading into this weeks bout.
Tomorrow night the G-Force Grand National Series powered by The JuiceBox Podcast visits the desert of Las Vegas. This will be just the second 1.5 mile race of the season. Two weeks ago the series visited Charlotte with championship leader Gerald Campbell out front for 46 of 100 circuits and scoring the victory. Jake Hounshell, Dallas Myhand, John Weitendorf, and Blaine Akin rounded out the top 5. Coincidentally these five are all in the top 5 in points.
Campbell will look to ride his 1.5 mile momentum to stretch out his points lead. The top seven in points are separated by just 76 points. Another tough race like Campbell had at Bristol could see the points lead fall into Weitendorf, Myhand, or Hounshell’s hands. Meanwhile, drivers at the back half of the top 10 in points will look to put their early season struggles behind them. Jeff Green will look to go back-to-back after his win last week and catapult himself into the top 5. A strong run from Kyle Johnson, Jason Hounshell, or Joseph Causey could wipe away early season blues and have them right back in the thick of the championship hunt.
Las Vegas under the lights should provide some exciting side by side racing after the tires heat up. Look for this to be a one stop race and hopefully clean overall with a more spread out field. There are three lines able to be used here in turns 3 and 4 setting up a potential side by side finish. Expect an early caution or two followed by a 50-60 lap green flag run, with the possibility of running green to the end. There will be comers and goers depending on the driver’s driving style and track temperature for tire falloff. I see this race coming down to a 25 lap run to the finish with a bit of tire strategy playing a factor.
