Week 14 College Football Preview

via NBC Sports

We have almost made it folks. Even with COVID cases rising throughout the country and some teams having to cancel games, there are a number of teams that will play their last regular season game this week. Notre Dame wraps up against Syracuse and will find their way to the ACC Title game if they can take care of business. We have yet to find a week where multiple top ten teams go down in big upset fashion. That may be due to road games being not as difficult without fans. We have two games between ranked opponents and Gameday will travel to the biggest game of the week as BYU tries to finish off their perfect season and make their case for a trip to the playoff.

Ranked at #13, it’s going to be difficult for the Cougars to jump high enough to make it in, but they’re doing everything in their power by adding a road trip to South Carolina. This is the first time two 9-0 teams will face off with neither team ranked inside of the top 5. Both teams can score so some might expect this to be a track meet. BYU scores the 4th most points in the country but what will they have game planned on such short notice. The Coastal defense has been sneaky this year and if you aren’t 100% prepared, they can cause serious problems. Zach Wilson has thrown 26 touchdowns this year and only two interceptions. He will be a high pick in next year’s NFL draft. I think BYU ends up pulling this one out but I don’t think he helps his draft stock in this game. An interception will help keep this Coastal defense in the game and keep this under the total.

Spread: BYU -10.5
Total: O/U 61.5

Prediction: BYU 27 Coastal 24

Who would have thought that Alabama vs LSU in death valley would ever be a 30 point spread. That’s what we have on our hands this week and I think I’m going to be taking it. LSU can’t find any rythem on offense and the Crimson Tide defense is on a tear. They made Bo Nix look awful last week en route to a 42-13 victory. Mac Jones and Najee Harris are still in serious considerations for the Heisman. The few players that LSU had that might be able to slow them down have declared for the draft so expect the tide to roll to a big victory.

Spread: Alabama -29.5
Total: O/U 66.5

Prediction: Alabama 52 LSU 17

The next game on the list is a game that lost a little bit of its edge when Michael Penix Jr went down with an ACL injury against Maryland. I was really looking forward to a Big Ten quarterback shootout. On the other side, will the Hoosier defense be able to get after Graham Mertz the way they did against Justin Fields? I don’t think that happens as Wisconsin has a much better offensive line to protect him. I think we see a little bit more of what we saw against the Illini in the first game of the season. Not as many points scored but the stats will be there. Wisconsin still needs to win out and get another loss from Northwestern to get a chance in the Big Ten Championship game.

Spread: Wisconsin -13.5
Total: O/U 44.5

Prediction: Indiana 17 Wisconsin 23
