Gambling Corner – January 13, 2021

I’m not gonna lie, at this point everyone should probably just fade my picks. I’ve been terrible at basketball so we’re gonna go with a hockey heavy card for opening night.

Penguins -110 vs Flyers
5:30 PM

I posted my blog about my expectations for this Penguins team. The expectations are high and they need to get started on the right note against a good Flyers team. Malkin said this week that they are still angry about how last season ended. Watch out for his line to get at least two goals tonight.

Lightning/Blackhawks over 6.5
8:00 PM

I’ve seen a lot of bettors taking the puck line for Tampa in this one but I’m just not sold on it. On one hand, this could be 2-0 before the first commercial break. Chicago is very bad. They are without their best players Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook, and Kirby Dach. The front office didn’t help matters by shipping out Brandon Saad and let Corey Crawford walk. However, Stanley Cup champs are 2-4 on opening night in the last six years and crazier things have happened. How big of a loss will Nikita Kucherov be? I think the safer bet is this game is played at a fast pace and a lot of goals are scored.

Texas -2.5 vs Texas Tech
9:00 PM

I’m trying to stay away from college basketball until I get things figured out but I am very confident in this pick. Texas is 6-1 against Quad 1 and Quad two teams and has the fourth best defensive efficiency in the country. On top of that, the Longhorn guards are extremely talented and can outmatch the guards of Texas Tech. I said it earlier this week on Press Break, this Texas Tech team is not on the same level as the other top teams in the Big 12. Mac McClung does not fit in with what Chris Beard wants to do and I think it continues in this one.
